Earnestly Seek Him

H.R. 748 – the CARES Act
Last night a bill passed in the Senate that will attempt to assist the nation in getting through the present pandemic we are all facing. This bill will throw large sums of money in many directions, hoping that all of the pieces together will help. Over the past few days, senators have taken turns going to the microphone and explaining why passing this bill is necessary. Words of posturing from both sides have tried to make it look like their party is responsible for this great package of assistance. If it actually works, they seem to want credit. Eventually the vote passed unanimously, 96-0. Having a unanimous vote on a bill of this magnitude is a miracle in and of itself, but I have stated often that there is no political solution to the world’s problems. This pandemic is no exception.
We Are All in This Together
A number of the senators that spoke drilled down on the point that this pandemic is too large for the private sector to solve; the federal government must act. And act, they did. Money will now be provided to the states, scientists, businesses, medical professionals, the unemployed, and almost every other person in this nation. If this bill gets passed in the House of Representatives and signed by the president and implemented efficiently, then the federal government can say they did their part. Solutions to this pandemic will be left up to the states, scientists, businesses, medical professionals, and even every individual.
What Now?
When Jesus was heading to the cross, he told his followers, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father as well.” When Nicodemus, a member of the Jewish ruling council, spoke with Jesus about being from God, Jesus told him, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.”
Believe in Jesus
Hebrews tells us that “Without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”
- While we are following the directions of our governor, “Stay Home. Stay Healthy.”, we have time to earnestly seek God. If you believe that he exists (and I do) and you believe that he will reward those who seek him (and I do) then seek him. Talk to God! Pray!
- Do you know anyone who has been tested for covid-19? Pray to God that they will be provided peace, rest, and health.
- Do you know anyone who has been separated from their family because of covid-19? Pray for God to comfort them and give them rest.
- Pray for our government officials on every level, that they may have wisdom in their leadership.
- Pray for the people you know in rest homes or rehabilitation centers or convalescent homes, that they may be kept safe and not feel too isolated or unloved.
- Pray for the grocery workers and truck drivers and farmers and others working on the food infrastructure, that they may see the importance of their labor, that they may feel honored and not burdened to serve our nation in time of need.
- Pray for the medical professionals on the front lines of this pandemic as they show comfort and care to our loved ones, even as we are locked out of the possibility of visiting in hospitals.
- Pray for business owners, large and small, that they will find a path through this and come out stronger on the other side.
- Pray!
Our God is faithful and able. We are the fallen ones, the ones that have strayed. Pray that we can earnestly seek God with our whole hearts.
